The French Baker Restaurant started in the late 80s. It served European-style bread, pastries, and pandesal. To this day, it still does and we’re loving it.

The French Baker Restaurant

The French Baker Restaurant has been around for decades. The person who has made it possible for us to experience this particular kind of dining is Johnlu Koa.

His passion for bread-making led him to own several food brands, the most famous one being, The French Baker.

If you live in the Pasig area (specifically the Kapitolyo area) you’re most likely familiar with a neighborhood bakery called Honeybread.

Although I’m not sure if it’s still there, Honeybread was a neighborhood bakery back in the early 90s in the Kapitolyo area. 😀

I used to frequent that place with my cute little nephews to buy some soft and yummy bread.

Even if at times when we didn’t buy anything, he would welcome us and have a chit-chat. 😄

Soup Starter from the French Baker restaurant
Each time we drop by the French Baker restaurant, we usually order the bread bowl soup. However, it wasn’t available at that time. This soup starter was not a bad replacement. Nothing beats their garlic toasts. It just goes so well with the soup.

I remember clearly in one of our friendly chit-chats, he excitedly told me about his plans to set up a restaurant.

He told me it would be a French-inspired restaurant. The reason why he told me that was because he had found out that I was a flight attendant, flying to Europe all the time.

At that time, there weren’t many options for bread. I remember buying outside the country and bringing home bread varieties for my mom.

Chicken Croissant Sandwich
Croissant with some chicken filling is just so good. A perfect snack.

That was pretty much the last time I spoke to him since my nephews had moved out of the area.

However, I do remember that bakery because of that super friendly owner.

Then when I started seeing him on tv in the years to come, I realized he was Johnlu Koa.😄

Fast forward to today, the French Baker Restaurant has become a famous bakery chain with many outlets in the Philippines.

The French Baker started out as a simple bakery cafe, serving signature bread.

However, a visit from Henry Sy, Sr., gave Johnlu a priceless business perspective. He went on to expand his business into a full-service restaurant, introducing the Filipino public to a broader variety of food.
