Although I’m not sure if it’s still there, Honeybread was a neighborhood bakery back in the early 90s in the Kapitolyo area. 😀

Each time we went there, the owner (a young Filipino-Chinese gentleman) was always very friendly and accommodating.

Even if at times when we didn’t buy anything, he would welcome us and have a chit-chat. 😄

I remember clearly in one of our friendly chit-chats, he excitedly told me about his plans to set up a restaurant.

He told me it would be a French-inspired restaurant. The reason why he told me that was because he had found out that I was a flight attendant, flying to Europe all the time.

At that time, there weren’t many options for bread. I remember buying outside the country and bringing home bread varieties for my mom.

That was pretty much the last time I spoke to him since my nephews had moved out of the area.

However, I do remember that bakery because of that super friendly owner.

Then when I started seeing him on tv in the years to come, I realized he was Johnlu Koa.😄

Fast forward to today, the French Baker Restaurant has become a famous bakery chain with many outlets in the Philippines.

However, a visit from Henry Sy, Sr., gave Johnlu a priceless business perspective. He went on to expand his business into a full-service restaurant, introducing the Filipino public to a broader variety of food.
