Sweet spaghetti? Well, you can only find it in the Philippines. No matter what, we will always crave Filipino-style spaghetti.

The Sweet Spaghetti

I think (so, it’s pretty much my opinion 😀 ) one of the many culinary wonders of the Philippines is the sweet spaghetti.

The first time I tasted sweet spaghetti was when I was a kid. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in our home.

Growing up, our spaghetti at home was pretty much Italian style. So, I got to taste the Filipino-style spaghetti at birthday parties.

I remember getting really excited going to one since I was going to be eating sweet spaghetti with slices of hotdog. It was a super big deal for me.

If there weren’t any parties, we would go to Jollibee and Mc Donalds to get a taste of Filipino-style spaghetti.

Aside from those two fast-food restaurants, we would also go to Makati Supermarket.😋

According to Pepper.ph, the hotdog and the sweet banana ketchup were creative ways to expand the quantity of spaghetti when served at parties.

How We Cook It At Home

There is no standard way to cook Filipino-style spaghetti. The bottom line is it should be sweet and most of all, tasty. Here’s how we cook it at home.

This recipe I’m sharing with you is our yaya’s recipe. Yaya Dolores has been making it for years. We always look forward to it.

Ingredients:

  • 1x kilo ground beef
  • 4x Del Monte Pinoy-style spaghetti sauce (the biggest size)
  • Diced onions
  • Minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp  patis
  • 4 tbsp sugar (that’s why it’s sweet 😃)
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1x beef cube

According to our yaya, you need to saute the ground beef with garlic and onions. Wait until the ground beef is softened.

Then add the Del Monte Pinoy-style spaghetti sauce. Mix. Then add the 2 tbsp patis and 4 tbsp sugar.

Add in the beef cube. Sprinkle some pepper. That’s it. So easy. So sweet. So tasty. So yummy.

Everybody Loves It

As previously mentioned, everybody looks forward to our yaya’s spaghetti. My mom-friends usually come over and request it. It’s just too bad that they can’t come over these days.
