Street Food in Metro Manila

Overall, I am just totally amazed at how they were able to conceptualize and make a very ORDINARY streetfood experience become an AWESOME family bonding experience. It was fun how we talked about our yesteryears with our children. AVENIDA street food did not only fill our tummies but it filled our hearts with JOY as well.

Who Are Behind Avenida?

At 8 pm, when I would still hear my children saying they had a great merienda turned into dinner after devouring on all of those 3 packs, I decided to let the seller know how much my family liked the orders we received. I even suggested for kwek-kwek to be included in their product listing (wishful thinking).

Gayle was very kind to acknowledge my appreciation and she even shared a bit of their history which made me realize why I feel that so much attention was placed into every detail of their products. It was first and foremost, a service of LOVE.

When It All Began…

In June 2014, their family moved to the Philippines from Los Angeles, CA.

They sold all their assets (house and cars), quit their jobs and left their other family members and friends only for the greatest reason of SERVING THE LORD full time in the “mission field.”

They wanted to come up with real, viable, and profitable businesses to communicate Jesus’ love, mercy, and justice to his people.

It was a mission they intended to do for 2 years. With zero entrepreneurial skills and no business background, they bravely faced this mission with one clear purpose: To Glorify the Lord by creating job opportunities for His people.

Their very first business was a Taho Factory in Mandaluyong.

They gave jobs to anyone who was willing and able to sell taho in the streets of Metro Manila. Then together with their spiritual family, they put up a Sorbetes factory.

In 2017, another business was added, the Sorbelato and Soyblessed. This time they started catering ice cream and taho to events and parties.

This was created as a response to the needs of their vendors’ children who are studying full time during the weekdays and can only work during weekends.

From their initial 15 events a month, they were able to do 100 events per month. Not only were they able to give income opportunities for the children who need financial augmentations; a lot more people were employed.

Unfortunately, the pandemic came and all those events had to stop. So to continue creating opportunities for their former servers and employees, they switched to a new online platform…delivery service through Avenida Pedestrian Delights.

Through this, some of their former servers now became their delivery partners and others have become helpers in the commissary.

The Perfect Ingredients

Upon hearing their inspiring story, I realize now why the experience of eating their street food has become so EXTRA ORDINARY…because everything is prepared by people with kind hearts and so much TLC for everyone.

Their product pricing isn’t steep considering all the perfectly thought of containers and the quality of the food itself. Their taho is cooked fresh daily from 6 am to 7 am so better to order in advance.

With the quality of their products and the real feel experience you get from each order, I am sure their mission will continue to delight the hearts of many.

After all, they do not only deliver great-tasting products but provide a more important part…that awesome human experience that comes with enjoying their products the FILIPINO WAY with the same authentic FILIPINO VIBES.
